All Your Foreign Repairs Dont At One Spot
July 17, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment
Foreign auto repair is usually a bit more complicated than the domestic kind. The reason isn’t hard to guess with parts coming from overseas and a base of expertise many thousands of miles away, it can be difficult to find solid, experienced and trustworthy repair technicians here in the States. It is not impossible, however, as evidenced by the many millions of people who manage to secure competent professionals every day for their Japanese, Korean, German and English cars. With a little understanding about this industry, you should be able to zero in quickly on superior help.
Be Sure To Know How Often To Maintenance Your Car
Scheduled maintenance occurs based on mileage, and should be done when due, no matter what.
- 3,000 miles (or three months) - change the oil and oil filter, along with the air filter element.
- 6,000 miles (or six months) - replace the fuel filter (if applicable)
- 12,000 miles (or twelve months) - check spark plug wires for wear, replace as necessary. Replace the PCV valve if applicable.
- 18,000 miles (or eighteen months) - replace spark plugs.
- 24,000 miles (or two years) - drain and refill the radiator with appropriate coolant.
- 100,000 miles - replace the timing belt or chain.
- A good visual inspection and scheduled maintenance will keep your car performing at peak condition for a very long time.
Get That Tune Up That Your Car Needs
When you need to know that you need your car tuned up:
- Hard Starting. The most common car trouble, usually due to neglected maintenance. If the starter cranks the engine, the electrical system is probably okay. The problem could be as simple as a starting sensor (or the choke mechanism if applicable).
- Knocking. A noise usually heard when the engine is “under load,” like during acceleration or climbing a hill. It can be caused by inferior fuel, but is often a sign your engine needs attention. Many cars now have knock sensors built in to correct minor problems, but they can’t compensate for larger malfunctions that could result in engine damage.
- Rough Running. This can be caused by a problem in the fuel or ignition system, or by a troubled valve or piston. Tell your technician when it occurs: When idling? During acceleration? At all speeds?

Make Sure Your Wheel Alignment Is Right Before Something Bad Happens
July 17, 2008 by admin · Leave a Comment
Uneven tread wear is a sign that the car was driven quite a while with improper wheel alignment. Often, the inner tire tread will wear down smooth while there is still plenty of outer tread left, or visa-versa. The result is that tires have to be replaced sooner rather than later. If tread wear is “cupped,” the vehicle was driven with the tires out of balance as well. Wheel alignment normally takes less than one hour. The vehicle is placed on a platform, which allows the wheels to spin while a computer calculates orientation. The computer compares this to a database of manufacturer specifications for the year, make and model of the car. If wheel alignment is off, an adjustment is made and the vehicle is tested again. Balancing can be done at the same time, if required.
Are Your Brakes Feeling Different? Don’t Mess Around and Get New Ones Today

A change in the feel of the brake pedal is a good indication there’s a brake problem. If the pedal starts to feel soft (or worse, contacts the floor) do not drive the vehicle without first having it checked carefully by a qualified brake technician. Loss of pedal ‘feel’ can indicate a very serious problem with your vehicle’s brakes which may result in sudden and unexpected failure.

Reasons It Is Important To Wash Your Car
1) Wash after a period of rainy weather. The acidic chemicals in rainwater will remain on the surface after the rain drops have evaporated, leaving a mark that can permanently stain the paint
2) Don’t wait to wash if you see bird droppings, dead bugs, or other obvious contaminants on the paint surface. Bird droppings have a high acidity that if left on the paint for any length of time, can eat into the clear coat. If they reach deep enough, these scars can only be removed by sanding and repainting
3) Frequent washing is the single best thing you can do to maintain and preserve your vehicle’s finish
